We are leading a bold movement to transform food, agriculture and economic models to work for people and the planet.

We believe in new models for ownership and investment for companies that share prosperity broadly and value stewardship of nature. This is at the heart of what we do at the Sustainable Food & Agriculture Perpetual Purpose Trust.

The SFAPPT is a “steward owner,” meaning that it owns independently managed and sustainability-rooted food companies, providing liquidity and transition for original owners or growth funding while protecting their mission and ensuring a focus on serving stakeholders.

Too often, we have seen companies sell at critical junctures, resulting in losing their mission and stakeholder focus. Our model upends this approach and offers a viable alternative — to be owned into perpetuity by a Trust, allowing company leaders to focus on serving a long-term mission without worrying about changes in the future of ownership and control while also allowing outside financing for liquidity or growth capital.

We advance sustainable agriculture practices and food systems.

Our Story

Steward ownership begins with the premise that corporations have a responsibility beyond generating profits to increase shareholder value.

Our Governance

The Trust is overseen by the Trust Protector Committee (TPC) which acts as a "steward” to ensure that the companies in the Trust stay aligned with the purpose and principles of the Trust.
